Travel Tips and Advice
When going on a backpacking trip, one of the most stressful things can be finding a cheap, comfortable place to spend the night. In high season, hostels fill up fast, and travelers have to jump on booking accommodations.
It is also difficult to determine which hostel is best for you without seeing them beforehand, as there are so many to choose from. You want to pick a place with all the amenities you require, at a lower price, with excellent reviews.
Luckily, the HostelWorld App makes searching for and booking hostels quick and easy.
This app is straightforward and easy to use. Just type in the city you want to visit, on what dates you'll need a room, and how many people need a place to sleep. Once the results pop up, you can filter the results by price range, ratings, distance from city center, property type, room type, and facilities. There is also a map button in the top right-hand corner that allows users to see where all the hostel options are located on a map.
After entering your search results, all the hostels matching your filters and desired number of guests appear. The best part of this app is that all the hostels have a rating from 1-10. These ratings are generated by people who have stayed at the hostel in the past and leave their reviews. The overall hostel rating, based on averaging all the reviews together, is displayed front and center. Users also have the option of seeing the individual scores of other travelers and their written reviews.
Once you select a hostel to view, you can see their overall rating and individual ratings of location, cleanliness, staff, facilities, atmosphere, security, and value for money. Below this are the individual reviews of past travelers. All the facilities that the hostel has to offer are listed on this app, such as wifi, if breakfast and linen are included, security lockers, kitchen spaces, and more. Directions to the hostel, location on a map, policies, and basic information on the hostel are all provided on the app.
After selecting a hostel, you choose what room type you want. Typically, hostels on this app offer private ensuites, double bedrooms, and dorm-style rooms that can range anywhere from 4-16 beds. Even better, most hostels provide either mixed dorms or all female dorms, which I can appreciate as a solo female traveler.
At checkout, users have the option of a "flexible" booking where you can spend an extra dollar or two and have the ability to cancel your reservation. This function is typically available up until 24 hours before your stay. Once you've booked your hostel, all the information on your visit is saved in the app.
While you don't need an account, Hosteworld offers users the ability to create a free account where all of your past, canceled, and future hostels are readily available to view. Having an account also makes it easier to leave reviews for hostels you stay at.
HostelWorld is one of the best apps for backpackers who want to find accommodation when traveling and has many features that make it stand above other apps.
